Synergy’s Dariea Malone prepares to lay down a bunt vs the Lady Wings
After sweeping past the VG Heat and into the Virgin Islands Softball-Baseball Association Men’s Championships Series that starts July 4, with a 10-7 victory on Friday and Sunday’s 15-5 triumph, Pirates Right Fielder Tecius “TC” Frett, said he’s expecting ‘fireworks’ as they await the defending champs Power Outage vs Aces winner.
Power Outage leads their series 1-0 and will face Aces on Friday, after Saturday’s 14-4 victory.
Frett said they’re not worried about the imported pitchers Power Outage—who they’re expect to face—has on their roster as they have one a well and it’s all fair game. “We’re ready to do. We can’t wait,” he told Island Sun Sports. “We’re looking forward to it. There’s going to be some fireworks, but we’re ready. I’m ready. We’re really, really ready. So you can come out here. It will be a show.”
Frett said they wanted to 3-peat last year, but that wasn’t the case. “We set in our minds to come back with a different mindset,” he noted. “We feel like we have the players to do it this year and we’re ready to go for the championship.”
Frett said the team had a slow start, losing three of their first four games. “After that, we caught ourselves and from there, we’ve been rolling.”
In Sunday’s game, Frett, who was 1-for-3 and scored twice, said that they set the tone early with five in the first, which was important to make their pitcher comfortable. “Just clean defense, offense was going and that was really it,” he said.
Levron Sarauw went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI’s as the top batter. Kyle LaMotta and Rico Penn, both went 2-for-3 with 3 runs batted in. LaMotta also scored three times.
Nicos Penn was the winning pitcher, Erwin “Redz” Telemaque took the loss.
“Pirates came as they always do, they have a good lineup,” VG Heat player manager Josh Ridgeway said. “We just didn’t come out with a lot of energy. They got a couple soft contact hits and runs and it looked like that deflated us from the onset.”
Catcher Jeremey “Chicken” Penn hit a first inning grand slam on a 2-for-3 night, scored 2 and drove in 5, in Power Outage’s 14-4 victory over Aces. Sheldon John, 2-for-3, 2-runs scored and 2-runs batted in, also homered. Jamal “Lefty” Allen was the winning pitcher, Gainsly Rabsatt took the loss.
Synergy advanced to seek their 5th straight Women’s crown, by whipping Lady Wings, 11-1 on Friday and 20-4 on Sunday. Designated Hitter Shereen “Birdie” Sprauve, had a 3-for-3 game with a run scored and 2-runs batted in. Makeda Fahie and Claury “Cló” Scatliffe, were 2-for-3 with 2-runs scored and drove in 2. Thea Cooke was the winning pitcher and J’Nae Hopkins took the loss.
